Although working conditions vary noticably from one country to another, one can be certain that they will be treated with the utmost respect and gratitude, in their position as an ESL teacher. Fairly standard working conditions are as follows:
- Contracts from four (4) months to two (2) years in length
- Subsidized and/or paid accommodation and living expenses
- Return international travel expenses paid upon the completion of one (1) year contracts
- Health insurance often completely paid for or subsidized
- Annual bonus equivalent to one (1) month salary given at the close of individual contracts
- Monthly salary: volunteer stipend to $4500 USD/month - English teachers often earn three times the local salary
- Free local language and culture lessons (ie: Thai kickboxing, calligraphy, Aikido, Salsa dancing, glass blowing, pottery, Tai Chi)
- Positive working environments with opportunity for personal growth and development
